New Square Chambers warmly invites you to join us in celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Law of Property Act 1925.
We are hosting a comprehensive one-day conference, divided into two sessions, where members of our Property and Trusts teams will explore a variety of engaging topics. You may book for the morning or afternoon session or the whole day

Our morning session will be delivered by members of our Property team
- Life and property law in 1925 (including digest of Settled Land Act) (NLP)
- Panel 1 – the LRA (not dead yet):
- Overriding interests in 2025
- developments in adverse possession
- land and the dissolution of companies
- Panel 2 – the LPA:
- the rise of co-ownership disputes
- developments in mortgages and charges
- Section 53 (and the old s.40 and the new 1989 Act) and informal land agreements
- Futurology: the next century in property law – environment and electronics

14:00 – 17:00 Trusts Session
Our afternoon session will be delivered by members of our Trusts team
- History now: trusts in 19th century England and the AJA1925 (NLP again)
- Panel 1 – the TA:
- s.30 (now 31): the trustee’s indemnity, Halabi, and the insolvent trust
- s.22 rehabilitating the protective trust for the 21st century [or maybe update on protectors and X Trust]
- Powers of advancement: who’s benefiting after Grand View ?
- Panel 2 – the AEA and more:
- AEA s.41: appropriation of trust and estate assets
- AEA s.46: Intestacy then and now, here and there [ie comparative across jurisdictions]
- LPA s. 53 again: LA Micro, Gany Holdings and dispositions of equitable interests
- Futurology: the next century in trust law – asset classes, CSR etc.
