Equality, diversity and inclusion

At New Square Chambers we are committed to promoting and advancing equality, diversity and inclusion. This spans all areas of our work, including the provision of services to clients, the recruitment and retention of members of Chambers, staff, clerks, pupils and mini-pupils, patterns of working, and the allocation of work.

We work hard to recruit and retain barristers and staff from diverse backgrounds. We recognise, however, that the current make-up of members of Chambers does not yet fully reflect our diverse and inclusive culture.

We know that actions speak louder than words and that’s why we’ve set out a number of activities designed to address this, taking steps to improve diversity and inclusion across the board.

Our work in this area includes:

  • Our social mobility programme; Fair pupillage selection processes (as well as support prior to application);
  • Mentoring for members’ career progression; and
  • Fair recruitment of members of chambers, supported by our members’ recruitment and equality, diversity and inclusion committees.

We strongly encourage applications from female, ethnic minority, disabled, and socially mobile candidates.

If you wish to discuss any matters relating to diversity and inclusion in advance of, or in the course of applying for a role, please contact EDOs: Alexander Learmonth KC or Raj Sahonte. Again, all discussions will be kept in the strictest confidence.
