What Can Possibly Go Wrong? Trust Developments in England and Beyond

April 22, 2026, 11:00 am to 12:00 pm

Join Nicholas Le Poidevin and Millie Rai as they deliver the next webinar from our Trust, Wills & Estates Practice.

In this session, Nicholas and Millie will discuss recent developments in trust law in both England and offshore jurisdictions, including Jersey, Guernsey, the BVI and Bermuda, with a particular emphasis on trusts and insolvency.

This webinar will consider:

  • Cryptocurrency as trust property
  • The importance of settlors’ wishes
  • Trustees’ duties in insolvency
  • Insolvency Act applications compared with conventional trust law routes
  • No-contest clauses
  • Trustees causing loss to a trust by retiring
  • Forthcoming developments

Nicholas Le Poidevin KC specialises in trusts and estates work, both contentious and advisory. Over half of his work comes from overseas, especially Bermuda and the Channel Islands, and he also appears in courts abroad. He is familiar with the trust laws of most of the offshore jurisdictions. A particular interest is the conflict of laws and the problems it causes in both trust and estate administration. “Nicholas is the prototype of a leading chancery silk.” Chambers & Partners UK Bar 2024.

Millie Rai’s practice has a particular focus on trusts, estates, and property disputes. She was named ‘Barrister of the Year’ at the Citywealth Future Leaders Awards 2025, recognising her as a rising star in private wealth disputes. Her cases often involve multiple jurisdictions and she has experience of offshore litigation in Guernsey, Jersey, the Isle of Man, and the BVI.
