Extensions of Time Under The Inheritance Act

June 18, 2025, 11:00 am to 12:00 pm

Join Laura Webster as she delivers the next webinar from our Trusts and Estates practice.

The course of litigation never did run smooth (to misquote a rather famous bard), and for a variety of reasons an applicant under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975 can find themselves seeking the court’s permission to make an application after the expiry of the six-month limitation period.

In the year of the 50th anniversary of the Inheritance Act 1975 Laura considers the case law that has emerged in relation to section 4 of the 1975 Act in the last half a century.

This webinar will consider:

  • The court’s approach to applications for extensions of time: the principles that the court will apply, and the weight given to different factors.
  • Practical guidance on the steps that can be taken once it is realised that a deadline has been missed.

Laura specialises in Disputed Estates and Trusts and Property Law. Laura has a busy and varied practice predominantly in Trusts, Wills & Estates, Property Litigation, and Personal Insolvency. Having amassed over 200 court appearances, Laura is an experienced court room advocate whom regularly appears in her own right in the High Court and the County Court.
