Our Head of Chambers Honoured with a Lifetime of Legal Excellence at the 19th Annual STEP Awards 2024

It is with immense pride that we announce our Head of Chambers, Nicholas Le Poidevin KC, has been honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the STEP Private Client Awards, which took place last night at London Hilton on Park Lane. This prestigious accolade celebrates his exceptional contributions and unwavering dedication to the legal profession.

Nick was called to the Bar in 1975 and continues to practise full-time, specialising in trusts and estates work. His career has been marked by numerous accolades, including being a highly respected ‘senior junior’ and winning the ‘Outstanding Achievement’ award at the STEP awards 2007/8. In 2010, Nick took silk, a significant milestone in his illustrious journey. He is now described in the Chambers UK directory as “the prototype of a leading Chancery silk.”

Over the years of his career, Nick has earned unparalleled recognition and praise. As Legal 500 puts it: “His technical expertise is of the highest order, and his written advice is utterly lucid and on point. He has a very nice persuasive advocacy style.”

The judges of the award were equally laudatory in their feedback: “Nicholas has had an exemplary career and has made a phenomenal contribution to our profession. He has had an incredible journey, and the contributions made to the legal industry reach across France, the US, England and the Channel Islands. Editor of the leading textbook on trust law, frequent speaker and thought leader, respected and well regarded by private clients and governments alike. He is truly one of the leading experts of our times.”

Nick’s contribution to the profession cannot be overstated. Besides his stellar advisory work, Nick is qualified to appear as an advocate in several offshore jurisdictions and has appeared in many of the leading reported cases in trusts and estates, particularly relating to the private international law of trusts. Most notably, he has served as co-editor of Lewin on Trusts – the leading textbook on trust law – for over 25 years.

His dedication to Chambers has been unwavering, he has inspired Chambers to improve and reform, attracting new talent and steadily improving its diversity and inclusivity credentials. Despite his long and distinguished career, Nick remains modest, approachable, and kind to clients and colleagues alike. As Chambers’ directory noted last year: “A leading expert internationally on trusts, … just so brilliant, such a nice person.”

Congratulations to all finalists and thank you to the judges for highlighting the remarkable career of our Head of Chambers whose legacy of excellence, humility, and kindness continues to inspire us all.
