New Square Chambers continues to support Pro Bono initiatives in 2023
New Square Chambers are proud to support Advocate and all efforts toward pro bono initiatives across the Bar. In 2022, New Square Chambers completed Advocate’s ‘25 for 25: The Pro Bono Challenge’, which took place from June 2021 to June 2022; where barristers were encouraged to complete 25 hours of pro bono for Advocate’s 25th anniversary. Their report was subsequently launched during pro bono week and the takeaways of the report were astounding. We were one of 125 chambers that took part in the challenge.
Advocate Pro Bono Pledge
Advocate has now launched their Pledge 2023 Scheme and we encourage others to get involved. To pledge, you must undertake 25 hours of pro bono work in 2023. You can complete the Pro Bono Pledge through any pro bono scheme, charity, law centre, or community group, not just Advocate. However, participants must keep a record of their hours and log this with Advocate as soon as they have reached their pledge of 25 hours.
If you are undertaking pupillage, there is also a separate Pupil Pledge to make your second six stand out! Pupils will need to complete one piece of pro bono work (through any scheme, charity, law centre or community group, not just Advocate) during your second six, and the charity will then send you a Pupil Pledge logo.
