Jessica Powers shortlisted in ‘Rising Star in Diversity Change’ category at WIPL UK Awards 2023

Jessica Powers has been shortlisted as a finalist in the ‘Rising Star in Diversity Change’ category at the Women, Influence & Power in Law UK Awards 2023 (LAW.COM International). The awards honour top female lawyers in private practice and in industry who have made a remarkable difference in the legal profession over the past year. The winners will be announced at the Royal Garden Hotel, Kensington on Wednesday 8 March, to coincide with International Women’s Day 2023.

Since joining Chambers in 2018, Jessica has been spearheading significant internal and external change with the aim of improving diversity and inclusion in recruitment and retention at New Square Chambers, and the commercial chancery Bar as a whole. She is responsible for a number of internal and external initiatives focused on recruitment and retention, such as the Social Mobility Mini-Pupillage (see https://newsquarechambers.co.uk/join-us/social-mobility-mini-pupillage) and the Stephen Lawrence Day essay competition (see https://newsquarechambers.co.uk/news-and-cases/2327/annual-essay-competition-to-honour-stephen-lawrence-day).

Jessica’s efforts and focus on these diversity and inclusion initiatives led to New Square Chambers being nominated for diversity and inclusion related awards at the TRI Awards and UK Diversity Legal Awards in 2021, and at the Lord Mayor’s Dragon Awards in 2022.
